What is Shakespeare in the Park?

Queens Park is regarded as the emerald jewel in the heart of the city. That makes it a spectacular setting each year for Shakespeare in the Park. Visitors and locals alike love seeing our city’s finest talent on stage, and the annual event is always one of the most popular things to do in Invercargill during the summer.

Now in its 20^th year, Shakespeare in the Park will be held from 5 – 8 February. This year’s production will be a performance of Macbeth.

Directed by local theatre heavyweight Angela Newell, Macbeth will feature a cast of spectacularly talented locals as well as Auckland actor Mike Edward in the eponymous role. Edward’s television credits include roles in “Spartacus”, “Filthy Rich” and “Power Rangers”. He is no stranger to theatre either. Edward has appeared in stage shows with the Pop Up Globe, Court Theatre, Silo Theatre, and the Auckland Theatre Company.

What can the audience expect?

Shakespeare in the Park always attracts large crowds. Hundreds of people, keen to take in some culture in one of the city’s most beautiful spots, gather for the event, which brings all ages together. As in previous years a licenced bar will be available and audiences are encouraged to bring picnics, deck chairs and rugs to ensure they enjoy the show in comfort. So, what can the audience expect?
